By now we must be familiar with the aspects of Document and data control is ISO / QS9000. Most of the organizations purchase items to conduct their operations of business. Supplier management is one of the chief concerns of the organizations of today as they face stiff global competition, operating costs due to currency strength of countries and due to commodisation of products. There is a need for a robust supplier base for successful business operations. The purchasing requirements in the ISO / QS 9000 standard ensure that the purchased products from different subcontractors by your organization confirm to the specified purchase requirement so that you can, in turn, satisfy your customers. The ISO/QS 9000 international quality standards require quality assurance in design and development, production, installation, and servicing of a product. The purchasing function has a significant impact on the overall ISO / QS9000 preparedness of a company because the quality of purchased materials, components, and services has a direct impact on the quality of the end product.

CONFORMANCE TO REQUIREMENTS

Purchasing process ensures that product to be purchased conforms to specified purchase requirements of the clients. It also ensures the type and extent of control applied to the subcontractor/supplier and the purchased product or service. According to the ISO / QS 9000 quality management systems standard, quality assurance is of paramount importance at all stages of product realization to avoid non-conformance. This makes ISO / QS 9000 or quality management systems different from other standards. The requirement specified by ISO / QS 9000 or quality management systems begin from the preliminary stage of purchasing it from subcontractors. It standardizes the requirements through evaluation procedures followed in development of products.

It is important to understand the scope of the purchased products under the scanner of ISO / QS 9000 or quality management systems. The purchasing requirements of the standard can be applied to designing the product, manufacturing it, installing it, maintaining it or operating the products and services. There are other supplementary activities like furniture, stationary, catering supplies which could be a part of the design, manufacture and installation operations but cannot be clubbed under the standard needs the organizations to ensure that purchased product confirms to specified purchase requirements. ISO / QS 9000 quality management systems define a supplier as an organization or person that provides a product or services. For example it could be hardware, software or processed materials. A supplier may therefore be a producer, distributor, retailer, vendor, contractor, subcontractor or service provider.
