Process Capability using Minitab

Capability on Minitab:

When calculating the Z Value or Cp/PP using Minitab - understanding the distribution the data is following is a crucial first step. Based on the distribution we would choose the relevant method. If data is normal (or can be transformed using Box-Cox or Johnson's method) - use the Option for Normal data, else choose Capability using Non-Normal data & choose the distribution your data is following.

Step 1: Check the distribution your data is following:

If you see that the P value for Normal is high - you would conclude that data is normal. Also if you see Box Cox or Johnson's Tranformation high - you would conclude that data can be tranformed using these methods,

If data is NORMAL, or BOX COX or Transformation Value is highest – choose Normal in capability calculation

Click Tranform and choose the Transformation method you want to use. In our example we had P value for Johnson's Tranformation as the highest - hence choosing the same.
